A notice in the Cambridge Independent Press 15 February 1907 shows the transfer of licence for the Red Lion from John MOSS to Augustus Charles Hacon (Find My Past: Newspapers)
As he appears on the 1901 census in Eltham they must have moved to Cambridge between 1901 and 1907. I wonder if the vacancy at the Inn was advertised anywhere as that may give the reason for his move, I can't find anything about his retirement from the Police.
26 November 1909 - Cambridge Independent Press - Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, He was in court for knocking a pedestrian down while riding his bicycle. home after a quoits match. (There are newspaper reports of him as a member of the Red Lion Quoits team)
In Cambridge Chronicle, 11 December 1914, p. 8 he was a founder member of the local Volunteer Training Corps
Later that year the Red Lion was burnt down the family escaping by climbing on to the kitchen roof. Cambridge Independent Press 22 December 1939 headed "25 Years ago week ending 25th December 1914"
(Mike Petty's version of the fire says the roof remained intact so were they able to utilise what remained of the Inn? )
